Knee Pain

Knee Joint

Knee joint pain is common and can affect people of all ages from adolescence to twilight years. Patellofemoral pain syndrome is one of the most common overuse conditions and osteoarthritis is the most common age-related condition that affects the knee. Problems at the hip above and the foot and ankle below influence the knee joint. It can be affected by trauma or age- related wear and tear and osteoarthritis.

Diagnostic Tools

A thorough examination is conducted on every patient. Structural deficits, restrictions, as well as muscle weakness and imbalances are identified. X-rays and State of the art Ultrasound technology are used for diagnosis of knee problems. Advanced imaging techniques such as MRI can be used for further assessment.

Dextrose and Biocellular Prolotherapy

Ultrasound guided steroid injections of the knee joint can relieve pain and inflammation of the arthritic joint. Frequently the knee joint is a victim of underlying ligamentous instability. We treat the entire knee ligament, cartilage and tendon complex to promote joint stabilization. Treatment of underlying knee joint degeneration and instability frequently helps avoid or postpone surgery. Unlike a more commonly used target specific approach where just the knee joint is injected, our technique restores stability to the areas around the joint. This not only allows for better healing but prevents recurrence of breakdown of the area in the future.

Concentrated dextrose solution is the foundation of our regenerative treatments. When injected around the superficial and deep ligaments of the knee, it promotes ligament regeneration and mild cartilage repair. It stimulates and enhances both PRP and Stem cell’s regenerative potential.

PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a stronger biocellular treatment. It promotes joint cartilage regeneration and repair of worn cartilage and ligament. PRP Prolotherapy technique is used in more advanced arthritic and degenerative cartilage and meniscal tear cases. It is an excellent treatment for meniscal tears.  It directly delivers grown factors in the damaged tissue and activates a signaling mechanism that stimulates body’s stem cell production and recruitment to the site of injury. Repair and new tissue growth occurs quickly and naturally.

Stem Cell therapy is the most advanced regenerative technique available. Stem cells are extracted from either the bone marrow or fat and are immediately reinjected in and around the hip joint. Direct delivery of mesenchymal stem cells into the affected area allows for repair by growth of new healthy tissue.

Therapeutic Tools

Osteopathic Manual Therapy( OMT) is utilized during every physician encounter as needed for correction of leg joint restrictions. These include foot and ankle restrictions that can transfer more stress to the knee. State of the art personalized one-on-one physical therapy is conducted to address restrictions, correct imbalances and promote strength of the supporting lower limb muscles.  SpineForce is a revolutionary tool that is used to facilitate rehabilitation and allow for independent exercise during and after the corrective treatment phase. It’s oscillating platform allows protected low impact knee motion that strengthens with minimal stress. Private and small exclusive therapeutic Yoga classes are prescribed for further gentle strengthening of the lower body.

NOTE: Yoga program is typically instituted after completion of the physical therapy and rehabilitation program, but can be used as a first line treatment for more deconditioned and arthritic clients. It is used in conjunction with Spine Force for continued improvement of postural balance, conditioning, and strength.
