Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT)

Osteopathic manipulative medicine is the tool the D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) uses to apply the osteopathic tenets of the healing touch and enhanced self healing, With an advanced understanding of the interrelationships between the body’s structure and function, and an understanding of how the body can be influenced by or can influence a human’s emotional or spiritual nature, the D.O. uses palpation and manipulation to provide patient specific care that promotes health and treats disease.

Osteopathic manipulative therapy, or OMT, is hands-on care. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMT, the doctor will move your muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

OMT can be helpful in relieving back and joint pain, as well as relieving discomfort and musculoskeletal abnormalities associated with a number of disorders, joint including asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome and migraines.
